Augusta’s young rotation brings yet another exciting arm The Atlanta Braves will run out one of their better pitching days on Sunday, with three top prospects in action.
Schedule
Gwinnett Stripers at Norfolk Tides 1:05 PM ET
Streaming | Stripers Radio
Probable Starters
GWN: Hurston Waldrep (1-0, 5.00 ERA)
NOR: Cameron Weston (0-0, 3.12 ERA)
The Gwinnett Stripers will send Hurston Waldrep to the bump with a chance to win a road series against the Norfolk Tides, with Waldrep looking to bounce back from a poor start last week. Waldrep struggled with his command, but just two weeks prior had a terrific start he will try to replicate. Opposing him will be Tides righty Cameron Weston, a 2022 8th round pick out of Michigan that posted a sub-3 ERA across High-A and Double-A last season. The Stripers will be hoping Garrett Cooper, who hit his first home run of the season Saturday, can keep up his good work from the double header.
Columbus Clingstones at Biloxi Shuckers 2:05 PM ET
Streaming | Radio
Probable Starters
COL: TBD
BLX: Abdiel Mendoza (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Columbus has won four of the five games this series against a scuffling Biloxi Shuckers team, and they have a chance to do more damage against starter Abdiel Mendoza. Mendoza is a low strikeout pitcher, something Columbus has done well with all season, and the player to watch will be the red-hot David McCabe. In six games in 2025 McCabe has an absurd eight walks to only one strikeout, thus far posting a 253 wRC+.
Rome Emperors at Bowling Green Hot Rods 2:05 PM ET
Streaming | Radio
Probable Starters
ROM: Adam Maier (0-1, 9.00 ERA)
BG: Santiago Suarez (0-0, 8.10 ERA)
Adam Maier is looking to get his 2025 moving in the right direction, but will have to face off against a strong Bowling Green offense led by #6 Rays prospect Aidan Smith. Smith has had a terrific week with a .979 OPS over his past five games, adding in eight stolen bases. Meanwhile Maier is coming off of an outing in which he struck out only two batters and issued three walks in four innings of work. Maier will be opposed by Santiago Suarez, a 20 year old who has climbed into the top 10 of the Tampa Bay system. Suarez has a mid-90’s fastball and an above average curveball which could prove challenging for the Rome roster who has been lead by Justin Janas’s 1.125 OPS over the past week.
Augusta GreenJackets at Hickory Crawdads 2:00 PM ET
Streaming | Radio
Probable Starters
AUG: Luis Arestigueta
HIC: Dalton Pence (0-0, 4.50 ERA)
This could be the breakout season for 19-year-old Luis Arestigueta, who despite being pushed aggressively by the Braves in 2024 was able to find success in a short stint in full season ball. Arestigueta is yet another in a list of young talents on Augusta’s roster, and already shows an advanced feel for a three pitch mix and the body composition to potentially grow into mid-90’s velocity. He’ll be facing off against the Rangers 2024 11th round pick Dalton Pence, who will be making his first start of 2025 after coming out of the bullpen in the first two appearances of the season. Look for Carlos Monteverde to be a potential impact player in this game. Although Monteverde hasn’t hit his stride yet this season with just a .543 OPS and no extra base hits, he has been a force at getting on the bases. He has more walks than strikeouts and a .393 OBP, and once he starts making solid contact could turn into this lineup’s most productive hitter.
