Atlanta Braves news and notes from Saturday On Saturday evening, the Atlanta Braves finally picked up their first road win of the season in a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Picking up the road win was huge, as the Braves will be heading into today’s series finale with a shot at picking up their first road series win of the year. They’ll be having Chris Sale going as well and hopefully he’ll be able to finally find his footing as far as this season goes.
Going back to yesterday’s game, one of the main reasons behind Atlanta’s late surge was Sean Murphy continuing to get off to a hot start since making his late debut this season. He’s hit the ground running and provided a jolt to this offense and it also appears that the rest of the lineup is starting to heat up as well. Austin Riley has started to look like his normal self again, Marcell Ozuna has continued to rake, Ozzie Albies delivered another home run and even Michael Harris II got in on the fun yesterday as well. However, Sean Murphy has been the catalyst for the success at the plate so far this week and if there was a guy who needed this type of start to the season, it was definitely Murphy. Long may it continue!
Sean Murphy's second homer of the day follows Ozzie Albies' first. Three solo homer have tied the game and given the Braves a chance to overcome today's many missed opportunities. pic.twitter.com/16Flg64a03— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) April 12, 2025

After dominating in his most recent rehab start, Spencer Strider has joined the Braves in Tampa Bay. He didn’t pitch this weekend (much to the chagrin of AB) but that date is surely coming soon for Strider.
Speaking of Strider, Saturday was Record Store Day and the hipster who just happens to be an excellent pitcher unveiled the bands and artists that will be featured for the second-annual vinyl giveaway later this season.
For anybody feeling brave (no pun intended), here’s another look from Kiri Oler of FanGraphs at the tough start that Atlanta’s offense has had to this season.
Will Leitch of MLB.com also got in on the “fun” as he discussed Atlanta’s big bats having a slow start as part of a bigger article talking about baseball’s playoff hopefuls and their concerns so far.
MLB News
Shohei Ohtani has pitched another bullpen session. His return to the rotation is still a ways away but it’s certainly looming on the horizon of this season.
The Rockies unveiled their new City Connect jerseys and, um, your mileage may vary on these unis. I like the hats! There, I said something nice.
Speaking of wild uniforms, it’s not every day you see all-powder blue vs. all-orange. That’s beside the point — the point is, Anthony Santander returned to Baltimore, hit a homer upon his return but the O’s were triumphant on the day.
Mets OF Jose Siri had to be taken off the field on a cart during the Mets’ 3-1 loss to the A’s yesterday. Fortunately, Siri’s cart made it off the field but another one ran out of gas and caused a delay. That stadium situation is such a mess.
