Luke Sinnard makes his pro debut.
The pro debut of 2024 third round pick Luke Sinnard and a follow up to a great season debut by Hurston Waldrep are the highlights of the Braves farm system on Tuesday. Tuesday starts a new week for the minor leagues, which means all new opponents for the affiliates of the Atlanta Braves. It’s a promising day on the schedule, set up to have Hurston Waldrep make his second start of the season and Luke Sinnard make his professional debut after spending last summer rehabbing from an injury suffered at the end of the 2023 college season.
Schedule
Gwinnett Stripers at Norfolk Tides 6:35 PM ET
Streaming | Stripers Radio
GWN: Hurston Waldrep (1-0, 1.80 ERA)
NOR: Cameron Weston (0-0, 2.25 ERA)
After having his second start of the season rained out on Sunday, Hurston Waldrep is making that start today against a talented Norfolk lineup. Norfolk has Pipeline’s #13 overall prospect in Coby Mayo as well as Orioles #6 prospect Dylan Beavers and #24 prospect Jud Fabian. Waldrep looked great in his season debut and will get a bit of a test tonight. Alex Verdugo is the most interesting bat in the Stripers lineup, as he continues to progress towards big league ready following his late start to the spring.
Columbus Clingstones at Biloxi Shuckers 7:05 PM ET
Streaming | Radio
Probable Starters
COL: TBD
BIL: Abdiel Mendoza (0-0, N/A)
This is a battle that will result in the first win of the season for one of these two clubs. The Brewers affiliate is very prospect heavy with its bats. Among the pieces of their lineup are Cooper Pratt (Pipeline’s #3 Brewers prospect, #54 overall), Luke Adams (#8), Brock Wilken (#17), Luis Lara (#20), as well as the injured Mike Boeve (#5). The bat to watch for Columbus is David McCabe, who is presently two for five with three walks through the first two games of the season. After essentially a lost year for him last season due to injury, this is a big season for McCabe and he has started it out on the right foot.
Rome Emperors at Bowling Green Hot Rods 7:35 PM ET
Streaming | Radio
Probable Starters
ROM: TBD
BG: Santiago Suarez (0-0, N/A)
Rome heads on the road to Bowling Green to start a new series. Rays #9 prospect Santiago Suarez is on the mound, making his High-A debut in this game. The Bowling Green lineup features Aidan Smith (Rays #6 prospect), Adrian Santana (#19), and Emilien Pitre (#23) as prospects to watch. For Rome the eyes should be on Ambioris Tavarez and Patrick Clohisy. Tavarez was a former top international signing that struggled a bit to start his career, but has shown some flashes since the end of last year to make us all pay attention again. Clohisy on the other hand has started out the season 4-10 with three walks after spending his college career being an extremely consistent and productive hitter during his two seasons with Saint Louis University.
Augusta GreenJackets at Hickory Crawdads 6:00 PM ET
Streaming | Radio
Probable Starters
AUG: Luke Sinnard (0-0, N/A)
HIC: Kamdyn Perry (0-0, N/A)
The big storyline here is the pro debut for Luke Sinnard. The Braves third round pick last season out of Indiana, Sinnard hasn’t pitched since the 2023 NCAA Tournament after injuring his elbow there. Considering the health and time off it wouldn’t be a surprise if he had a little rust to shake off in his first game in almost 24 months, but a chance to get a look at a prospect the Braves only had available to themselves in the third round because of the health questions is going to be something to watch. We all know about the exciting young Augusta lineup that’s loaded with prospects, while the only Hickory bat ranked among the top Rangers prospects on Pipeline is Yeremy Cabrera (#16). It is worth noting although as of this writing Luis Guanipa has not been moved to the IL after the injury on Sunday, he is expected to miss some time as reported by our own Gaurav Vedak.
