Nick Allen continues to get run at shortstop, as he appears to be real competition for Orlando Arcia at the position. Nick Allen continues to get run at shortstop for the Atlanta Braves, as he appears to be real competition for Orlando Arcia at the position. Allen was a bit of an overlooked addition this offseason, but he has shown some solid defense and some contact skills at the plate.
This will be his fourth straight start, and with Arcia’s extended struggles, it seems like he may be taking over as the starting shortstop, at least in the short term. Drake Baldwin continues to get the lion’s share of the time at catcher, being treated as the true primary as we await Sean Murphy’s seemingly imminent return. It seems like Baldwin may remain in the majors when Murphy returns, but how that time-share works is yet to be determined.
