Atlanta Braves news and notes from Thursday. The Atlanta Braves opened the 2025 campaign in disappointing fashion, dropping game one of four against the San Diego Padres 7-4. The Braves got an early start and scored in the first inning, but a lack of timely hitting, a relatively underwhelming start from Chris Sale, and a lackluster bullpen performance resulted in the lead-blowing Opening Day loss.
Neris retired none of three batters faced, and now Bummer is in with runners on the corners and none out in a 4-4 game in the seventh inning. Diaz followed the Sheets homer with a single, and Tatis added a broken-bat single. https://t.co/EsV2iSIq6U— David O'Brien (@DOBrienATL) March 27, 2025
Fortunately, the good guys did log two homers, one off the bat of Ozzie Albies and the other from Austin Riley. Even more fortunate? The Braves get back to work behind Reynaldo López tonight at 9:40 ET.

The Cleveland Guardians scratched right-hander Tanner Bibee from his Opening Day start as he deals with the stomach flu. Ben Lively got the nod instead.
