We’re going to see how Padres fans feel about him very quickly, huh. Almost immediately after the Atlanta Braves officially locked in their Opening Day roster, they also confirmed what their lineup will look like for the first game of the season against the San Diego Padres. If you wanted storylines then there’s one tailor-made for this game that’ll get things going right from the words “Play Ball!”
Here’s the first lineup of the season for our Braves:
This is a lineup order that the Braves used a few times during spring training, so it’s not particularly surprising to see this end up being what they go with to start the regular season. With that being said, it’s certainly a little spicy since the former Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar will be the very first batter to start today’s game in Petco Park. It would be lovely if he received a warm welcome but Opening Day crowds are always a little more intense than any other day, so you never know what the reaction might be.
Meanwhile, Drake Baldwin will in fact be making history as he’ll be the first Atlanta Braves catcher in history to make his MLB debut on Opening Day. While it may have taken an injury for Sean Murphy to make it happen, he certainly earned his way onto the roster and into the Opening Day lineup as well, since Brian Snitker could’ve easily decided to rely on Chadwick Tromp and his experience at the big league level. Instead, Drake Baldwin will be manning the backstop as he looks to continue a long line of strong performances from Braves catchers over the years.
On the other side of things, heres how the Padres are looking:
Today’s game starts at 4:10 p.m. ET. For more information on how to watch, check out this link and our game preview as well.
