The veteran catcher is the latest player to be sent to the minor league camp. The Atlanta Braves continued their Spring Training roster reduction earlier this afternoon by announcing that veteran catcher Sandy León was reassigned to their minor league camp.

The well-regarded backstop spent last season with the Braves at Triple-A, serving as a mentor to top prospect Drake Baldwin. Last year also marked the first season that León had not appeared at the big league level since 2011.
The 36-year-old will likely head to Gwinnett joining fellow veteran catcher Curt Casali who was reassigned yesterday. They will likely split time with Baldwin when he returns to Triple-A once Sean Murphy returns from the fractured rib he suffered earlier in Spring Training.
As noted in our 2025 positional preview earlier today, Baldwin appears to be a lock for the Opening Day roster, the expectation is that he will head to the Stripers to get regular playing time and continue to develop defensively.
To that end, León will continue to serve a valuable role, as noted by The Athletic’s David O’Brien.

The Braves are now 10 roster moves away form their 26-man roster with the regular season starting for Atlanta next week.
