Atlanta Braves news and notes from Saturday As the offseason creeps along, I want to briefly discuss Drake Baldwin, as his place in the organization is an interesting one. As the Braves opted to decline Travis d’Arnaud, who has since signed with the Angels, a spot has opened up in the majors for a second catcher behind Sean Murphy. That would be BEHIND Murphy though, which is perhaps not the best place for a promising prospect to develop, and the franchise may like Chadwick Tromp (or another free agent option) enough to feel comfortable with a veteran option and allow Baldwin to spend the year developing more at AAA. This does not make the same problem go away for the 2026 season and beyond, however, as Murphy is under contract for a while. Baldwin will surely be requested by some teams in trade talks, however high end prospects like him, especially on the position side, seem to be getting included less and less frequently in trades, and the Braves may value him more than the market. One option that may be the most realistic is for Baldwin and Murphy to each get meaningful time at DH in 2026, as Marcell Ozuna will no longer be under his current contract with the franchise. Either way, Baldwin’s situation will be worth watching this offseason.
