Compton tallied three hits over the past week — two of which left the park. Multiple Atlanta Braves’ farmhands were in action for Peoria over the past week. So, let’s dive into all the action.
Drake Baldwin
Baldwin did not appear in a game over the past week for Peoria. All told on the season, the backstop has played in 13 games, posting an OPS of .943 — which is third-best for the Peoria squad. Baldwin has also driven in nine runs, while only striking out nine times and walking in eight at-bats. Baldwin also has a double and a triple to his credit as well.
Davis McCabe
Like Baldwin, McCabe didn’t make an appearance for Peoria in the past week. In 10 games for the Javelinas, McCabe is carrying a .584 OPS to go along with two doubles, nine hits and four runs scored. He has yet to go yard for Peoria in his AFL stint.
Drew Compton
If we handed out a weekly MVP award for best AFL performance, Drew Compton would be this week’s winner by a landslide.
In three games, the corner infielder went to the plate nine times, reaching base in a third of those at-bats. Two of those hits left the yard, as Compton homered twice and drove in three runs — en route to posting a 1.500 OPS for Peoria over the past week.
Compton had an excellent week, which drastically helped his overall numbers — albeit they still aren’t great. In 16 games, Compton has posted a .520 OPS with the pair of homers. However, he has driven in 10 runs and doubled twice.
Isaac Gallegos
Despite making just one appearance last week, Gallegos had arguably the best performance among Braves pitchers in the AFL.
While he had to wait until the ninth inning to make his appearance in the AFL All-Star game as Atlanta’s lone representative, Gallegos got the call to hold the AL squad at bay. In his lone inning of work, Gallegos struck out the first batter he faces and finished off the inning by inducing a fly out to send the game to the final half frame.
Across seven appearances out of the bullpen, Gallegos sports a 3.38 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched. Gallegos has struck out an impressive 17 batters during those frames, but walks have been an issue, as he’s issued 11 free passes during his stint in the AFL as well.
Adam Maier
On the surface, Adam Maier’s past week in the AFL was forgettable. Maier made one appearance over the past seven days, getting a start for Peoria, tossing 2.2 innings while allowing six runs on seven hits.
While those numbers aren’t great, the underlying metrics suggest there was something to like about Maier’s appearance. According to MLB.com, has tossed 30 pitches with a spin rate of 3,000 rpm or higher — ranking in the top 20 of all AFL pitchers.
In five starts this year for Peoria, Maier has posted an ERA of 11.20 across 13.2 innings. He has also struck out 13 batters while walking eight on the AFL season.
Landon Harper
Like Gallegos and Maier, Harper made a lone appearance for the Javelinas last week, tossing a pair of scoreless frames while scattering two hits and striking out one.
The appearance lowered Harper’s AFL ERA to 4.11 in six innings — 15.1 innings pitched. In those frames, Harper has allowed 17 hits, but only one longball. He has also shown great command, striking out 14 batters compared to just three walks for Peoria.
Ryan Bourassa
Keeping with the trend, Bourassa also made one appearance out of the bullpen for Peoria dating back to last week. While he only allowed one hit, it was a homer which ballooned his ERA on the week to 6.75.
Bourassa has managed to miss bats in the AFL, striking out 13 batters in just 7.1 innings. However, he has also given up three homers, 11 hits and issued five walks, which hasn’t helped his 13.50 ERA for Peoria.
Hayden Harris
Harris had a similar appearance to Bourassa’s, in the sense that he posted a 6.75 ERA in just 1.1 innings of work. However, Harris’ issue wasn’t giving up any homers, as instead he allowed a pair of hits which ultimately led to a run scored.
In his short appearance, however, Harris did manage to strike out a pair of batters. In seven appearances for Peoria, Harris has tossed 8.2 innings to the tune of an 11.42 ERA. While those numbers aren’t the best, Harris has struck out an eye-popping 16 batters in his appearances, while issuing just four walks.
