One of MLB’s top qualifying offer players receives one from the Braves Among the several decisions on the Braves was the one to provide Max Fried with a qualifying offer or not. This one is a no-brainer.

Max Fried can accept a one-year deal for $21.05 MM for his 2025 services. Or he can elect free agency, which will provide draft pick compensation to the Braves.
Fried goes into his contract year with a career 3.07/3.29/3.33 line over a 884.1 IP. He’s been the 12th most valuable pitcher in MLB since 2019 with 18.4 WAR. He’s just above Charlie Morton at 14th and 16.6 WAR during that span. He pitched 6 scoreless innings in the deciding Game 6 of a World Series. But now, he can elect to leave.
This could be an interesting call for Max Fried. His numbers tell him to get the bag. His injuries over the last two years might compel him to stay. Typically, the Braves will not allow a player’s contract to expire without some extension if they intend to keep him. Marcell Ozuna is a notable exception to that rule. He was very emotional after his last home start in Atlanta. But yeah, he’s probably gone.
