This is unreal. If you hear the sounds of someone laughing in a manner similar to that of Walter White while he was laying down in the crawlspace at the end of the Breaking Bad episode “Crawl Space,” don’t worry about that strange noise. It’s just me. All you can do is laugh to keep from crying at this point, as the Atlanta Braves have suffered another major injury blow ahead of the biggest game of the season.
Indeed, Chris Sale has been scratched from Game 2 of today’s doubleheader against the New York Mets with back spasms. As a result, Grant Holmes will start in his place.

As it turned out, Sale tweaked his back all the way near the beginning of his most recent start on September 19 in Cincinnati against the Reds. Despite having been scheduled to start back when the Braves were originally scheduled to play against the Mets last week, the dreaded back spasms popped up on Sale again and as you can hear from President/GM Alex Anthopoulos, the Braves just don’t feel comfortable starting him today and will be going with Grant Holmes to start Game 2, instead.
Fortunately, Sale is day-to-day but that’s largely assuming that the Braves are able to win Game 2. Anthopoulos even went on to say that Sale could potentially start in the San Diego series, which is pretty wild to think about. This entire day has been wild to think about from the moment this scenario became a reality and now the Braves are going to be playing for their Postseason lives without the guy who has been clearly their best starter all season. Again, all you can do at this point is laugh as the injury bug strikes once again here at the very last possible juncture of the season.
