Atlanta Braves news and notes from Saturday Everything keeps coming up Braves (for once this season), as they won in walk-off fashion and their wild-card rivals lost once again. Now they can clinch a playoff spot with a win Sunday OR a Diamondbacks loss. A scenario is also in play where they may not have to play Monday at all if the Diamondbacks lose and the Mets win, clinching their own spot. Scenarios aside, the Braves were in a dire position only a week ago and are now in need of only one win for the rest of the season in three games (or a Diamondbacks loss) to clinch a playoff spot, which is obviously an extremely strong position to be in for a team still not in the playoffs at this stage in the season. Huge credit goes to the pitching staff that has been lights out all season, despite losing the preseason Cy Young favorite for the season only two starts in and carried the team again Saturday night.
Braves News
The Braves reinstated Reynaldo Lopez off the 15-day IL with shoulder soreness, optioning John Brebbia to AAA in his place.
Lopez led the way to a 2-1 win that d’Arnaud walked off with a solo homer and put the Braves on the precipice of clinching a playoff spot.
MLB News
Seattle Mariners’ GM Jerry Dipoto indicated that he has no plans to trade any of his vaunted starting rotation, despite his reputation for wheeling and dealing.
The Padres are shutting down Ha-Seong Kim for the season, as he will require shoulder surgery that will make him unavailable for the playoffs.
Sal Frelick has been diagnosed with a bone bruise for the Milwaukee Brewers, as they expect him to miss the beginning of their playoff run.
Anthony Rizzo suffered two fractured fingers being hit by a pitch and will miss an undetermined amount of time.
