Atlanta has three pitchers and two position players up for the first or second All-MLB teams. On the last day of the 2024 MLB regular season - games against the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets tomorrow not withstanding - MLB has released the list of players on the ballot for the 2024 All-MLB teams. Announcement of the first and second team players will be on November 14, 2024 in Las Vegas.
The Braves have five players on the ballot - three pitchers and two position players. The pitchers include National League Cy Young Award hopeful Chris Sale, fellow starter Reynaldo López and closer Raisel Iglesias. The two position players are designated hitter Marcell Ozuna and first baseman Matt Olson.
Sale and López, both in their first season in Atlanta, anchored a Braves rotation that was without Spencer Strider for almost the entire season.
Sale has had his best season since 2017 and has the possibility of winning the National League pitcher’s triple crown for the best ERA, most strikeouts and most wins.
López returned as a full-time starter for the first time since 2019. He responded by making 25 starts and ending the regular season with a 2.00 ERA.
Iglesias has been among the best late-inning relievers in all of MLB with 33 saves in 62 games and a sterling 0.706 WHIP across 68 innings.
Olson enters Sunday’s contest with the Kansas City Royals one home run and two RBI short of a 30 home run, 100 RBI season. He has also played in every game the Braves have played this season. Although his numbers were off from this record setting 2023 season, he’s still been one of the best first basemen in the National League. Olson was a second team All-MLB selection last season.
Ozuna, who has also played in every game the Braves have played this season, is one home run short of back-to-back 40 home run season with Atlanta. He flirted with leading the National League in batting average and will finish in the top five on numerous offensive categories. He will likely finish in the top five for the National League MVP.
Voting for All-MLB can be done at MLB.com/AllMLB through October 11, 2024.
