He’s eligible to come back from the IL on Thursday and it appears that he’ll be activated on that day. The Atlanta Braves have gotten some early good news when it comes to one of their starters who is currently on the Injured List. Reynaldo López went down with a shoulder ailment that limited him to just one inning pitched against the Washington Nationals back on September 10. The Braves have basically used Grant Holmes as his replacement in the rotation since he’s been gone and while Holmes has done okay in that role, he may not have to be pressed into duty any more since it appears that López will be back very soon.
15 days after going down, López appears to be doing fine and said as much to reporters at the ballpark here on Wednesday. His bullpen session on this past Tuesday appears to have gone really well, as Justin Toscano is reporting that he threw at “about 80 percent” and that he doesn’t “need to face batters before coming back.” What makes this interesting is that Mark Bowman is reporting that López also mentioned that he’s ready to return as a starter or reliever.

I’d imagine that coming back as a reliever would be if the Braves are in a really tricky situation — either in the regular season or the Postseason. For now, I probably wouldn’t expect him to start until either the weekend series against the Royals or even potentially on Monday should the weather and subsequent results in the NL Wild Card race force that final game of the series with the Mets to eventually get played. Either way, this is very good news for the Braves to have Reynaldo López coming back and feeling good after suffering another injury.
