In the final game of the regular season AJ Smith-Shawver struck out 10 hitters, and Drake Baldwin had another multi-hit performance. Sunday was it, the final regular season game in the minor leagues for the Atlanta Braves system in 2024. With just one team in action there wasn’t a lot to follow, but two of the biggest names in the system went out with strong performances. AJ Smith-Shawver had nasty stuff, while Drake Baldwin just keeps on hitting.
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 5, Gwinnett Stripers 1
Box Score | Statcast
Harold Ramirez, RF: 2-3, 2B, BB, R, .231/.278/.275
Drake Baldwin, C: 2-4, 2B, BB, RBI, .298/.407/.484
AJ Smith-Shawver, SP: 6 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 0 BB, 10 K, 4.86 ERA
Huascar Ynoa, RP: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 6.15 ERA
It was AJ Smith-Shawver getting the start in the finale for the Stripers, and it was a bit of a mixed performance. AJSS went six innings and allowed five runs, though only gave up six hits and no walks. He also picked up 10 strikeouts - including a massive 24 swing and misses. The issues came when facing Dane Myers and Grant Pauley, as each of them hit a pair of homers off of AJSS, who allowed two hits to the rest of the lineup combined. Huascar Ynoa came in and pitched the final two innings of the season, not allowing a base runner while striking out three.
With no Nacho Alvarez for the finale, Drake Baldwin finished off hit minor league season by putting together his 35th multi-hit game of the season, going two for three. Harold Ramirez also went two for three, with a walk and double plus the lone Gwinnett run scored. Luke Williams also added a double, and beyond those three guys the lone hit was a Brian Anderson single.
