Finally, Ozzie has come back to the Braves lineup! As anticipated after they gave him his rehab assignment earlier this week, it’s Friday and Ozzie Albies is officially back for the Atlanta Braves. Indeed, the rehab assignment went well and the Braves have made it officially by reinstating him from the IL this afternoon. Here’s the announcement via X Twitter:
The #Braves today returned INF Ozzie Albies from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated him from the injured list, and optioned INF Cavan Biggio to Triple-A Gwinnett.— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) September 20, 2024
Over nine plate appearances during his rehab stint, Ozzie Albies collected four hits, with three of them being doubles and one of them being a homer. He also picked up a walk while he was at it, so hopefully this is a sign that he’ll be able to hit the ground running (while exclusively hitting right-handed) upon his return.
Additionally, Cavan Biggio has been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett. Biggio made four appearances for the Braves since being called up and put up one hit and one run over five plate appearances. It’s not a huge shock that he was the one to get sent down, as it was always expected that he would serve as depth for the Braves once he was signed.
As far as Ozzie’s return goes, this could be huge if he does indeed return and hit the ground running upon his return. There’s also a question of what’s going to happen with guys like Whit Merrifield and Ramón Larueano, though I’d suspect that Laureano will be the one who remains in the lineup while Merrifield goes to the bench. Either way, it’s a good problem to have and hopefully Ozzie’s return will come in the nick of time to help push the Braves into the Postseason.
