Although the move is not yet official, report indicate the Braves will get Albies back for their series against the Marlins. Almost two months after fracturing his wrist, Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies appears set to return to the Braves active roster when the Braves open their series against the Miami Marlins on Friday, September 20.

Reports have been circulating for the last week that Albies could return against the Marlins, although he will be limited to batting right-handed. With less than 10 games remaining in the regular season and Atlanta still on the outside looking in the playoffs, the return of the three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger at second base will hopefully ignite an offense that has been showing signs of life in the last two weeks but has still be wrought with inconstancy game-in-and-game-out.
Atlanta’s infield depth has been pushed beyond the organizations ability to back-fill in-house after Albies and third baseman Austin Riley both succumbed to wrist fractures. Turning to recently-released free agents Whit Merrifield and Gio Urshela, Atlanta was able to stay in the play-off hunt, although Merrifield’s foot fracture exacerbated the team’s depth issues.
With Merrfield back in the starting line-up this week, but likely limited to infield duty because of his foot, Albies pending return will likely shuffle the team’s revamped line-up.
Albies has been getting in-game at bats with the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers, and appears ready with four hits, including a home run, in eight at bats in his first two games.
