Atlanta adds help with Nate Landman on the shelf. With Nate Landman on injured reserve, the Atlanta Falcons suddenly have a depth problem at inside linebacker. JD Bertrand is relegated to a full-time special teams role at the moment, and both Kaden Elliss and Troy Andersen had their rough moments against the Eagles on Monday Night Football.
It’s no great surprise, then, that the team went out and added an option. They signed linebacker Josh Woods, who has several years of experience and eight career starts, adding him to the practice squad alongside inside linebacker Monty Rice. It’s a virtual lock that one of those players will be elevated this Sunday against the Chiefs.
Transaction: The Falcons signed inside linebacker Josh Woods to the practice squad.Woods has been in the NFL since 2019, active with three different teams. He has eight career starts and 65 game appearances on his resume. He was most recently with the Cardinals in 2023.— Terrin Waack (@TerrinWaack) September 17, 2024
Woods, 28, has spent time with the Bears, Lions, and Cardinals in his career, which began back in 2019. Over that span, he has 122 combined tackles, a half sack, and one forced fumble and fumble recovery. If Woods ends up playing—and it’s an open question if he or Monty Rice would be the first player elevated—he’ll likely take on a reserve role where he very occasionally spells Troy Andersen on early downs. His best work throughout his career has been as a run defender to this point.
Give him a warm welcome, and we’ll see if we see him Sunday.
