The Stripers fell short in 11 innings against Buffalo on Wednesday. In what was a relatively light day down on the farm for Atlanta’s minor league affiliates, Gwinnett came up short in the only game on Wednesday.
(69-71) Gwinnett Stripers 3, (64-74) Buffalo Bison 6
Drake Baldwin, C: 2-4, 3B, 2 RBI, Sac Fly
Nacho Alvarez Jr., 3B: 2-5, RBI
Dylan Dodd, SP: 3.2 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Box Score
Gwinnett fell short in an extra-inning affair on Wednesday; falling to Buffalo by a 6-3 tally in 11 frames.
The first three innings were rather unexciting as both teams were held scoreless. Gwinnett starter Dylan Dodd tossed 3.2 scoreless frames before Buffalo finally tacked on a run in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. Across his work, Dodd scattered four hits while allowing two walks and striking out a pair as well.
At the dish, the Stripers were stifled through the first five frames. However, fortunes changed in the home half of the sixth inning.
Justin Dean ledoff with a single before a Nacho Alvarez Jr. single moved him to third base. Then, Drake Baldwin came through with a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Dean to tie the game at 1-1.
After Dodd gave way to the bullpen, relievers Huascar Ynoa, Tommy Doyle and Domingo Gonzalez kept the Bison at bay, leaving the game knotted at 1-1.
In the top of the 10th, however, Buffalo managed to scrape two runs across the plate, scoring off of reliever Parker Dunshee — who would end up allowing five total runs on the night — as the Bison took a 3-1 lead.
The Stripers would bounce back in the home half of the tenth. With Luis Liberato starting the frame at second base, Yolbert Sanchez singled to move him to third and with two outs in the inning, Alvarez Jr. and Baldwin laced back-to-back singles to score both Liberato and Sanchez to tie the game at 3-3, sending the contest into the 11th inning.
Things went off the rails in the top of the 11th, as Buffalo scored three more times to take a 6-3 lead as Gwinnett went down in order to hand the Stripers the loss.
(61-70) Mississippi Braves, (63-67) Biloxi Shuckers (POSTPONED)
With Hurricane Frederic sweeping through the Gulf Coast, Mississippi’s game against Biloxi was postponed on Wednesday.
