Braves ink veteran outfield to contract to add additional depth at Triple-A. The Atlanta Braves have added veteran outfielder Harold Ramirez on a minor league contract in news that shared by Gwinnett Stripers announcer Dave Lezotte earlier today.
The #Braves have signed former Marlins, Guardians, Rays, and Nationals OF Harold Ramirez to a MiLB deal today, and he is in the lineup for @GoStripers tonight in Louisville. Batting in the cleanup spot, playing RF.— Dave Lezotte (@DaveLezotte) August 23, 2024
Ramirez was released by the Washington Nationals earlier this month. He began the season with the Tampa Bay Rays. The almost 30-year-old outfielder has appeared in a combined 73 games so far this season with a 73 OPS+. He was much better in the prior two season with the Rays with a 125 OPS+ last season behind .313/.353/.460 slash line in 400 at bats.
It is a no-risk move for the Braves as he would only be owed the minimum if Ramirez were to appear for Atlanta this season. Ramirez adds depth for Gwinnett who placed Yuri Gurriel on the 7-day IL, as also reported by Lezotte.
INF Yuli Gurriel was placed on the @GoStripers 7-day Injured List.— Dave Lezotte (@DaveLezotte) August 23, 2024
Give the litany the injuries the Braves have suffered this season, Ramirez provides another safety net if additional issues arise for the major league squad. It also gives the organization time to evaluate him to see if he could be a depth option for the 2025 season.
The right-handed hitter also has experience at first base in 536 career games since debuting for the Miami Marlins in 2019.
