Merrifield will bat second, and Duvall is in LF The Atlanta Braves face Philadelphia Phillies this evening while going for the series win. They lost by one run last night after only scoring two runs. In game one they won 3-1 in another low scoring game.
The pitching has done a fine job in the series, but the offense has struggled. The Braves tried to shake things up by playing the hot hand and moving Merrifield and Laureano in the second spot the in the lineup the past two nights with Soler still being out and Riley being out an extended period of time.
With it appearing that Soler will not start again until Friday based on comments made by Mark Bowman, the question before the lineup dropped was who would be batting second. Wheeler and Nola are both righties, so their placement in the lineup was not based on the handedness of the starting pitcher.
I guess by "Friday," Soler meant, "I can pinch hit tonight."— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) August 21, 2024
Cristopher Sánchez is on the mound for the Braves tonight, and even though he has pitched 140.1 innings, and the Braves have faced the Phillies eight times this season, he has not faced the Braves this season.
That being said, there are some players on the roster that have faced Sánchez in a limited capacity. Arcia, Harris, Laureano, Murphy, and Soler are all hitless against him although none of them have more than five at-bats against him.
Marcell Ozuna has had success in his four at-bats with a .500 average and 1.350 OPS, and d’Arnaud has one hit in his two at-bats. Olson has struggled to a .334 OPS in his six at-bats against Sánchez.

The answer on who is batting second has been answered, and it is Merrifield again, with Soler still out. Adam Duvall will get the start in LF. It makes sense that Duvall would get a start versus a LHP starter. He has a .818 OPS against lefties this year.
The Phillies had two different lineups the past two games and that is most likely due to Fried being a lefty. With Schwellenbach being a righty, it could be assumed that the lineup was going to look close to what it was on Tuesday.
Spencer Schwellenbach did well against the Phillies in his start against them this year giving up one run over 6.0 innings while surrendering seven singles and zero walks, with six strikeouts. Harper and Schwarber were not in the lineup in this game. Turner, Stott, Rojas, Marsh, and Castellanos had one single a piece when they faced Schwellenbach.
First pitch is at 7:08 ET.
