Luke Williams replaced Riley in the bottom of the first inning. It seems we are now at the point where if it is a Sunday and the Braves are playing there is a good chance some sort of injury scare will occur.
In the top of the first inning just a few minutes ago, Austin Riley was hit in the hand by a 97 MPH pitch.

Austin Riley got drilled in the right hand by a 97 mph sinker. He is staying in the game to run the bases. For Riley's standards, he reacted strongly and seemed to be in immediate pain.— Justin Toscano (@JustinCToscano) August 18, 2024
He stayed in the game to run the bases, as he was thrown out at second just a few pitches later when Marcell Ozuna grounded into a double play. After the top half of the first inning concluded, Luke Williams entered the game for Riley and will bat second and play third base the rest of the afternoon.

While it is at least somewhat of a positive sign Riley did not immediately leave the game, he clearly was in pain from being hit. It obviously is too early to have certainty on the extent of the injury for Riley, and it is logical for the Braves to be cautious since it impacted his throwing hand. We will likely get more information during and after the game, and hopefully the news from this point on is positive. The Braves certainly are due a bit of injury luck with how this season has progressed.
