Sale was superb and the offense was much better after a deflating performance on Friday. The Braves bounced back in a big way against the Angels on Saturday night, riding another superb effort from Chris Sale as the bats came to life in an 11-3 victory.
After failing to take advantage of a million scoring opportunities on Friday, the Braves wasted no time getting to Angels starter Griffin Canning on Saturday. Michael Harris doubled, Austin Riley singled, and Marcell Ozuna hit a ball 437 feet to center field to take an early 3-0 lead in the first.

Harris would drive home another run in the second with an opposite field single to make it 4-0. It’s only been a few games, but it’s so nice to have Harris back in the field and the lineup.
The Braves blew the game open in the fifth. Whit Merrifield hit his first homer since joining Atlanta. With two on and two out, Travis d’Arnaud roped a double just past the diving glove of Taylor Ward to drive in two more. Ramon Laureano then continued his strong hitting with a two-run shot to make it 9-0. The Braves would add two more runs in the seventh thanks to an errant throw that sailed into the dugout with the bases loaded.
It was an impressive offensive performance for the Braves, who lit up the Statcast leaderboards with a plethora of baseballs hit over 100mph off the bat. After going months without reaching double digit runs, the Braves have now scored 11 runs or more in three of their last nine games.
Chris Sale was excellent once again. He worked six innings and was working on a shutout until Anaheim scored two in the sixth. He struck out 10, walked two, and gave up the two runs on six hits. He is the current National League leader for the Triple Crown (wins, strikeouts, ERA) and frontrunner for the Cy Young. What a season.
The series (and the lengthy west coast road trip) wraps up Sunday afternoon with Charlie Morton set to take on righty Jack Kochanowicz, who will be making the fourth start of his career. The first three did not go well with a 7.98 ERA, so here’s hoping the Braves can wrap up the trip with a win before a much needed day off on Monday. First pitch is set for 4:07 p.m. ET.
