Reynaldo made a rehab appearance for the Stripers last night and while the command on his slider was off just a bit, he looked like someone that will find his way back to the majors sooner than later. Reynaldo threw all three of his pitches and his fastball had good velocity throughout, hitting 95 with his 66th, 67th, and 68th pitches. He got into some trouble in his final inning when he gave up a leadoff triple to Livan Soto with his slider, then hit the next batter with his fastball, before giving up an RBI single to Terrin Vavra on another slider. Overall, Reynaldo looked healthy and if I had to guess, will find himself back in the majors for his next start.
Allan Winans then came in after Reynaldo, walked Jean Segura then induced a double play, allowing a run to score and extending the Norfolk lead to 3-0 but getting two outs. The threat then ended with Winans striking out J.D. Davis and putting a close on Reynaldo’s day. Winans would go on to pitch brilliantly, allowing just one earned run over the final five innings along with 11 whiffs.
Offensively, 2-4 (Chadwick Tromp, Drake Baldwin, Yuli Gurriel, Alejo Lopez) in the lineup did the heavy lifting, accumulating 10 hits, five RBI, and four runs scored. Alejo Lopez got things started in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly scoring Chadwick Tromp. After being held in check the next three innings, Gwinnett would explode with four runs in the seventh inning thanks to two RBI single by Drake Baldwin, and two run scoring double by Alejo Lopez. and giving Gwinnett a lead they would not relinquish.

Trey Riley, P: 1IP 0H 0R 1BB 2K, 4.23 ERA
Darius Vines, and the rest of the Mississippi pitching staff were absolutely brilliant the win for Mississippi. Darius Vines was a man possessed, striking out 11 over five innings and generating a game high 16 whiffs. Vines was followed by Trey Riley (1IP 0H 0R 1BB 2K), Elison Joseph (1IP 1H 0R 0BB 2K), Landon Harper (1IP 1H 0R 0BB 0K), and Rolddy Munoz (1IP 0H 0B 1BB 0K) - totaling 15 strikeouts in a dominating performance by the pitching staff.
It was needed, as Mississippi was held to just two hits with the one run scoring in the top of the third when David McCabe drove in Bryson Worrell who had walked to start the inning. The only other hit was in the first inning via an Ethan Workinger single with two outs. There isn’t much else to talk about the Mississippi offense as they totaled 12 strikeouts of their own.

Riley Frey, SP: 5IP 3H 1ER 1BB 6K, 2.05 ERA
Ryan Bourassa, RP: 2IP 0H 0R 0BB 4K, 3.12 ERA
Rome with a nice, quick (2 hours, 3 minutes) win over the Asheville Tourists thanks to some outstanding pitching. The trio of Riley Frey, Giomar Diaz (2IP 1H 0R 2BB 0K), and Ryan Bourassa completely shut down the Tourists, allowing four total hits and three walks with a combined 10 strikeouts. The game started off rough for Riley who loaded the bases with 0 outs in the top of the first before escaping it, allowing just one run after inducing a run scoring double play, and then getting ground out to end the frame. Including those final two outs, Riley would retire 10 straight before giving up a single in the top of the fifth. Like Frey, Giomar Diaz would come in and walk the first two hitters he would say before getting out of that inning with no runs scored thanks to yet another double play. It was overall just a brilliantly pitched game for Rome who have had a solid month of August after a rough start to the second half of the season.
Offensively, Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. set the tone of the game with a lead off single before he would steal his 40th, and 41st bases before scoring on a Jace Grady groundout to tie the game at 1-1. The Rome offense was back at it again in the third inning when, once again, Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. singled with two outs and was driven home by Drew Compton who hit his 10th double of the season to put Rome up 2-1. Rome would pick up their final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a Jace Grady double that scored Joe Olsavasky who had singled to start the inning.

Garrett Baumann, SP: 5.2IP 2H 1ER 2BB 10K, 3.50 ERA
Garrett Baumann was overpowering last night, striking out 10 hitters over 5.2 innings in what ended up being a very close win for the Augusta GreenJackets. Still just 19, Garrett has put together a very strong season for Augusta who set a career high in strikeouts while accumulating 15 whiffs. Jacob Gomez, a minor league free agent just signed a couple of weeks ago, also worked a fantastic 1.1 innings (1.1IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K), throwing 15 strikes on 22 pitches. Albert Rivas (2IP 4H 3ER 0BB 1K) made it close, giving up three runs and allowing the Woodpeckers to tie the game, before ultimately getting the blown save, and win.
Offensively, the GreenJackets would pick up their first run of the game in the third inning when Luis Guanipa singled to right, scoring Masson Guerra. They would score two more in the bottom of the fourth when Colby Jones, 2024 14th round pick, would pick up his first professional RBI on a bases loaded single. Mason Guerra would follow that single up with an outstanding at bat, drawing a bases loaded walk to put the the GreenJackets up 3-0. They would put up a fourth run in the seventh starting with a John Gil walk who would then go first to third on a single by Junior Garcia. With runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out, the 11th round pick Patrick Clohisy would hit a sacrifice fly, scoring John Gil and making it 4-1. As stated in the previous paragraph, Albert Rivas would blow the save and allow the Woodpeckers to tie the game before the GreenJackets would walk it off with John Gil taking home on a wild pitch.
