Max Fried’s return should help fortify the rotation that still has uncertainty around Reynaldo López’s availability. Multiple reports began circulating when reporters arrived at Truist Park this afternoon in advance of the Atlanta Braves’ Saturday night game against the Miami Marlins that Max Fried will start tomorrow’s series finale.
Max Fried will start tomorrow.— Gabe Burns (@GabeBurnsAJC) August 3, 2024
Fried, who has been on the IL with left forearm neuritis since July 21, was eligible to be activated off the IL yesterday.
Additional reports on fellow injured starting pitcher Reynaldo López didn’t provide clarity on the status of the pitcher’s injury. Lopez has not yet been placed on the IL with the only communication that he was “day-to-day” since leaving his last start after the third inning against Milwaukee.
Reynaldo López still hasn’t thrown a bullpen. If the Braves eventually put him on the IL, they could only backdate the transaction three days. Seems like they believe he could pitch within the next 7 days— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) August 3, 2024
Speculatively, López’s status could be resolve tomorrow if he is placed on the IL to open spot on the 26-man roster for Fried.
Fried has made 18 starts for Atlanta this season and López has made 19 in his first season as a full-time starter in several seasons.
