Grant Holmes will make his first career major league start for the Braves in Monday’s series opener against the Brewers. The Atlanta Braves will be looking to build some momentum Monday when they continue their road trip with a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Braves won the final two games in New York against the Mets to salvage a series split. Atlanta currently holds a 1.5 game lead over the San Diego Padres for the first Wild Card spot.
The Braves continue to deal with multiple injuries in the rotation. Max Fried is currently on the injured list with forearm neuritis. Atlanta may have lost another starter Sunday after Reynaldo López left his start against the Mets after just three innings with soreness in his forearm. Lopez was sent back to Atlanta and was scheduled to undergo an MRI but the results haven’t been announced yet.
The Braves have juggled a number of arms throughout the season but will go with Grant Holmes in Monday’s opener. Holmes will make his first major league start after 10 appearances out of the bullpen. Holmes was working as a starter at Gwinnett prior to his promotion and is stretched out for multiple innings. The Braves recalled Darius Vines Monday to give them another multi-inning option that could step in if needed.
The Brewers will counter with right-hander Colin Rea in the opener. Rea tied his season-high with eight strikeouts in five scoreless innings in his last start against the Cubs.
Atlanta will be hoping to carry over some offensive momentum from the final three games of the series in New York. The Braves homered four times in Sunday’s win and have 10 over their last three games. Matt Olson homered again Sunday and has homers in consecutive games for the first time all season. Marcell Ozuna homered twice in the series against the Mets and is second in the National League with 30 for the season.
First pitch Monday night is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET and can be seen on Bally Sports South.
