The Braves will hold their breath as Reynaldo López gets checked out back in Atlanta. Reynaldo López left Sunday’s game after just three innings due to soreness in his right forearm. Brian Snitker told reporters after the game that Lopez is traveling back to Atlanta and will undergo an MRI. The Braves may have the results as soon as Sunday night.

It goes without saying that the Braves can ill-afford to lose another starter. Lopez has been key in helping keep the team’s head above water through injuries and offensive underperformance. Snitker said that Lopez felt the soreness in his last inning and they pulled him as a precaution. Hopefully it is nothing serious, but an injured list stint is probably likely.
Max Fried is currently on the injured list as well but threw long toss on the field before Sunday’s game. Fried is eligible to come off the injured list Friday, but Snitker wasn’t ready to say whether that will happen or if Fried might need a rehab start before rejoining the rotation.
Despite the injuries and the tightening of the Wild Card race, the Braves will stick with their plan and not push their rotation. Grant Holmes will make his first career start in Monday’s series opener in Milwaukee. Tuesday’s starter is TBA at the moment and Snitker confirmed during postgame Sunday that they will push everyone back and give them an extra day. Snitker didn’t give any hints on what direction they might go Tuesday, but Bryce Elder was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday for Gwinnett.
