Atlanta Braves news and notes from Saturday Spencer Schwellenbach just put up an enormous start for Atlanta on Saturday, when the team's season felt like it was on the ropes after losing six straight. This continues what has been an extremely impressive rookie season for the 24 year old who has very little pitching experience under his belt. He has clearly been growing at the major league level through these ten starts, as his first three were pretty shaky as he got later into his outings, but he has looked really good for the last handful of starts he has put forth. He seems to be really improving his ability to strike major league hitters out as he has expanded and refined his arsenal. Spencer looks like a fantastic job done from both the scouting and development staff to identify him on such little pitching experience and help mold him into what he is becoming in front of us. He could be a rotation staple for a long time in Atlanta.
Braves News
The Braves shuffled the bottom of their bullpen, bringing back Jimmy Herget, as Daysbell Hernandez was sent back down.
Spencer Schwellenbach’s brilliance and a few homers got the job done for the Braves against the Mets in New York.
Former Braves’ GM John Copolella wrote a piece for Yahoo about what it’s like to be a MLB GM at the trade deadline.
MLB News
The Mets are trading for veteran corner outfielder Jesse Winker from the Nationals, giving them another solid outfield option.
The Yankees traded for Miami’s star, Jazz Chisholm in one of the bigger trades so far this season.
The Cubs traded for reliever and one-time top prospect Nate Pearson from the Blue Jays in exchange for an outfield prospect.
The Brewers traded for Nick Mears in the annual “good development organization trades for underperforming Rockies’ reliever with great underlying metrics” move.
The Red Sox made an intra-division move, acquiring Toronto’s Danny Jansen as a veteran catching option.
The Phillies traded a couple prospects to the Angels for closer Carlos Estevez, as they look to bolster their already strong squad.
Kodai Senga appears unlikely to pitch again this season, at least in the regular season, with a calf injury.
