Austin Riley will be back in the Braves lineup for Thursday’s series opener in New York. As expected, Austin Riley will be back in the Atlanta Braves lineup for Thursday’s series opener in New York. The Braves reinstated Riley from the paternity list Thursday morning. Thanks to the rainout of the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader, Riley only missed one game for the birth of his son. The Braves also announced that they have recalled Daysbel Hernandez from Gwinnett. Infielder Zack Short was designated for assignment to open up a spot on the active roster.

It has been a busy couple of days for the Braves from a transactions standpoint. Hernandez was originally slated to be the 27th man for Wednesday’s doubleheader before the second game was postponed. Luke Williams was promoted to replace Riley when he went on the paternity list but will stick around with Zack Short now the odd man out.
Hernandez has enjoyed a couple of stints on the active roster and has yet to allow a run in 9 2⁄3 innings. Him having options has worked against him and his stay this time around could be short as Atlanta only has four starting pitchers on the roster and will need to promote someone before Monday’s game in Milwaukee.
Short had filled in across the infield for the Braves but was just 8-for-51 at the plate in 29 games with Atlanta. The recent additions of Nacho Alvarez Jr. and Whit Merrifield made him expendable.
