Darius Vines, SP: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 5.14 ERA
Darius Vines returned to form an absolutely dominating outing for the righty. Vines, who has had his struggles with command and strikeouts located well and limited the Bulls to just four hits over six innings of work while striking out eight and walking none. It was one of his most dominant outings of the year and a really nice sign to see Darius pitching with confidence. Tommy Doyle came in after Darius and worked an inning and yielded a run himself and the duo of Parker Dunshee and Ken Giles closed out the game and preserved the win for the Stripers.

On the offensive side of things, with Nacho Alvarez Jr. now in the majors the offense runs through Eli White and Drake Baldwin and neither let the Stripers down as they combined for four hits and a double (Eli White). Outside of those two, every single Stripers player had at least one hit with the bottom three (Lopez, Liberato, Martinez) each having at least two hits and combining for eight total hits highlighted by this homer by Alejo Lopez.

Luis De Avila, SP: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 3.51 ERA
The suddenly surging Luis De Avila had another solid outing going six and limiting the Biscuits to just four hits and one earned run while striking out five. Through his first 11 starts Luis had a 4.97 ERA, .724 OPS against and simply didn’t look like the guy that went from Rule 5 draftee to top 30 prospect. But that appears to no longer be the case as he has pitched wonderfully since June 15th which have included six starts, a 1.42 ERA, and minuscule .473 OPS against and has much better 2.12 BB/9 rate. Mississippi has needed this De Avila so to see him really right the ship has been great to see. The duo of Jorge Juan and Jonathan Hughes then shut down the Biscuits over the games final three innings combining to strike out four while giving up just two hits.
The Mississippi offense struggled to get things started through the games first four innings but took off for four runs in the fifth highlighted by this Bryson Horne three-run homer.

They would later add on another run in the seventh inning with a Cal Conley single that drove in David Fletcher who had walked earlier in the inning and picked up his fifth stolen base. Geraldo Quintero continued his recent good form with a 2-for-2 game and his 30th stolen base of the season. Geraldo is currently on base to destroy his career high in stolen bases (34) and after hitting .212/.310/.300 over the seasons first 56 games, Geraldo has turned things around and has hit .314/.415/.429 over his last 21 games.

Cory Wall, SP: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 3.10 ERA
Cory Wall pitched effectively this game - striking out four over five solid innings of work. William Silva (2.1IP 3H 2ER 1BB) and Rob Griswold (0.2IP 0H 0R 1BB 0K) pitched effectively enough to keep the Emperors in the game, the three of them combined to yield a total of five hits, but it just wasn’t enough as the offense simply couldn’t get it going.
The Emperors went up early in this game when Nick Clarno reached on a throwing error in the second inning allowing Adam Zebrowski to score - but that was as much a they could muster. The top five hitters of the lineup went 1-for-17 with three walks total. Kudos to the Cyclones pitching staff who stroke out ten hitters while surrounding four hits (one double).
(36-53) Augusta GreenJackets 1, (39-52) Myrtle Beach Pelicans 7
Box Score
Luis Guanipa, CF: 0-4, BB, .133/.188/.133
John Gil, SS: 2-4, RBI, SB, .357/.333/.357
Garrett Baumann, SP: 4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 3.72 ERA
Another thought day at work for the GreenJackets offense who struggled to collect just a total of five singles throughout the game. They actually lead 1-0 through four innings when John Gil singled in Joe Olsavasky in the fourth but that was all they could muster over the course of the game. Luis Guanipa and Junior Garcia continued their struggles, since their promotion, combining to go 0-for-7 with three strikeouts and two walks and the two have OPS’s of .321 and .133 respectively. Isaiah Drake continued to quietly turn his season around going 1-for-4 with his 18th stolen base of the game and he suddenly finds himself with a .504 OPS, nearly 200 points higher than it was a little more than a month ago. John Gil was the only one to register a multi-hit game, but Will Verdung did go 1-for-2 with a pair of walks himself.
On the mound, Garrett Baumann looked solid - striking out eight over four innings of work. While he’s been mainly getting it done with the changeup, he had an effective enough four seamer that was able to get a few whiffs which was very encouraging to see. The rest of the pitching staff struggled as Adel Dilone walked two and gave up a hit in his .2 innings of work while Albert Rivas and LK McDonough gave up four and one run, respectively, while walking a combine three.
While Guanipa and Garcia have struggled since their promotions it is important to note that they are young for the level and it will take some time to adjust as the quality of pitcher from the FCL to Low-A is a decent size improvement with secondaries being utilized more. The foursome of Guanipa, Gil, Garcia, and Drake should be very fun to watch once they all start get going.

Jimmy Herget, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 0.00 ERA
The biggest call out from this game is that it was the return of Hurston Waldrep to the mound. After being placed on the IL following his MLB stint, Hurston returned to action in the FCL and gave up an earned run and two walks over two innings of work. The reliever Jimmy Herget, who was placed on the IL dating back to June 6th, made his first rehab appearance as well working a spotless inning and striking out one. Robert Gonzalez, who was moved to the FCL following the promotions of Guanipa, Gil, and Garcia went 1-for-3, while the struggling Diego Benitez had a solid game going 2-for-2 with a walk.
