The Braves will try to make it five-straight wins Saturday against the Yankees. Charlie Morton will take the mound Saturday for the Atlanta Braves as they look to clinch a series win over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The Braves have won four straight games and seven of their past eight overall. They jumped all over Carlos Rodon in the series opener Friday and cruised to an 8-1 win. Veteran right-hander Marcus Stroman will get the start for the Yankees in Saturday’s game.
Morton will make his 14th start of the season in Saturday’s game and will be looking to build off a solid outing in his last start where he allowed one run and tied a season-high with eight strikeouts against the Tampa Bay Rays. Morton has a 2.65 ERA through three starts in June and has logged at least five innings in 12 of his 13 starts this season.
Stroman will be looking to bounce back for the Yankees after a tough outing last time out where he allowed four runs in five innings against the Red Sox. Stroman has allowed 17 hits and nine runs over his last 15 1⁄3 innings. Walks have been an issue as well as he has issued nine over that span while totaling just six strikeouts.
It seems like we have been waiting a long time, but Atlanta’s offense is starting to break out. The Braves pounded out 14 hits, including three homers, and scored all eight of their runs in the first four innings Friday night. Austin Riley had two more hits, including his seventh home run of the season. He’s 12-for-22 with four doubles and four homers over his last seven games. Jarred Kelenic added two hits out of the leadoff spot and is hitting .288/.333/.492 with a 131 wRC+ in June.
Saturday’s game is scheduled to get underway at 7:15 p.m. ET and will be televised nationally on FOX.
