A key Braves reliever is nearing a return. The Atlanta Braves are closing in on getting another key piece back from injury. Lefty reliever A.J. Minter is scheduled to make a rehab appearance Saturday with the Rome Emperors. Minter was placed on the injured list on May 30 due to left hip inflammation.

Minter has appeared in 25 games and has a 2.95 ERA and a 4.88 FIP in 21 1⁄3 innings.

The Miami Marlins released righty Burch Smith who was recently designated for assignment.
The New York Mets claimed outfielder Duke Ellis off of waivers from the White Sox. Ellis was designated for assignment earlier this week. New York optioned him to Double A.
The Cincinnati Reds designated outfielder Conner Capel for assignment. Capel has spent most of the season at Triple A where he was hitting .226/.361/.439 with a 109 wRC+.
The Colorado Rockies selected the contract of outfielder Sam Hilliard Friday. Hilliard spent the 2023 season with the Braves where he appeared in 40 games and logged 78 plate appearances.
