With the trade deadline about two months away, Braves fans weigh in on the team’s biggest need. Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Atlanta Braves fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
This week’s SB Nation Reacts question asked what the Atlanta Braves’ biggest need is with about two months left before the trade deadline. The results are in and 54% of Reacts voters think that adding a pitcher should be the Braves’ top priority.
There is a good chance that Alex Anthopoulos tries to address both needs ahead of the deadline, but it is interesting that fans centered on a pitcher given that the rotation has been outstanding over the first two months of the season even with the loss of Spencer Strider.
It makes sense though. Chris Sale has been excellent but has a long history of injuries. Reynaldo Lopez has been great as well, but how many innings they can count on from him is an open question. The fifth starter spot has been a revolving door with Spencer Schwellenbach the latest to get a shot at holding it down. Even with their offensive struggles, there is enough talent on this roster that should be able to cover what they have now.

With the sudden retirement of Angel Hernandez, this week’s nationals Reacts question asked who is the worst umpire in Major League Baseball. CB Bucknor won in a landslide capturing 70% of the vote with Hunter Wendelstedt coming in second.

The results of the last two questions for this week are a bit confusing. Sixty one percent of voters say that they like the human element that umpires bring to a game. But, 70 percent say that there should be an automated strike zone.

I think there is a good chance that we see a challenge system instituted in the majors in the near future. I’m kind of torn on what that might do to the game.
