Kelenic is out of the lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Nationals. Jarred Kelenic is out of the Atlanta Braves’ lineup for Thursday’s series opener one day after injuring his wrist on a diving catch in Boston. Brian Anderson will start for the Braves in right field Thursday with Adam Duvall shifting to left. Brian Snitker said that Kelenic came in sore Thursday without providing many more details.
Jarred Kelenic was a little sore today. The Braves are starting the right-handed hitting Brian Anderson over the left-handed hitting J.P. Martinez because of handedness.— Justin Toscano (@JustinCToscano) June 6, 2024
Kelenic made a diving stab on a fly ball to end the sixth inning in Wednesday’s loss to the Red Sox. Trainers came out to attend to him and he walked off the field. He later returned for the seventh inning but exited for a pinch-hitter in the eighth. X-rays on Kelenic’s wrist were negative, but it is unclear if he has or will undergo any additional testing.
The Braves signed Anderson to a major league deal on Tuesday. Anderson signed a minor league deal with the Mariners on March 28 but was released on June 1. Atlanta also has J.P. Martinez on the active roster as a reserve outfielder.
