David Fletcher’s transition to starting pitcher took another step forward in an otherwise quiet day on the farm (27-31) Gwinnett Stripers 3, (27-31) Durham Bulls 10

Grant Holmes, SP: 5.0IP 7H 4R 3ER 1BB 6K, 1.98 ERA
The Stripers fell behind early, and fell behind fast in a blowout loss to the Durham Bulls. The Stripers gave the ball to starting pitcher, turned closer, turned back into starting pitcher Grant Holmes who was decent as he navigated through five innings of three earned run baseball striking out six while walking just one. The scoring festivities kicked off in the first when Chadwick Tromp’s passed ball allowed Curtis Mead to score from third base. The Bulls extended their lead to 2-0 when they tacked on another run in the third inning.
Gwinnett got on the board in the fourth, cutting the deficit to just one run when Eli White unloaded on a pitch - crushing it 107.2 MPH and watching it sail 455’. The Bulls would respond immediately by scoring a pair of runs to extend their lead to 4-1. That’s when the the recently signed Ramón Laureano did his best Eli White impression and hit a ball 106.9 MPH on his own that went an astounding 463’ which did make it 4-2. That, however, would be as close as Gwinnett would make it as the Bulls would score six runs over the next two innings courtesy of a pair of homers, a two run double, and a two run triple. Andrew Velazquez would add a homer of his own, a meager 365’, but ultimately the Stripers would fall.

David Fletcher, SP: 6.0IP 2H 1ER 2BB 2K, 1.50 ERA
Mississippi was held scoreless for all but one inning of this game, when they exploded for six runs in the eighth inning when they went: K, 1B, BB, 1B (RBI), 2B (2 RBI), 1B (2 RBI), FC, GO, 1B (2 RBI) before eventually ending the inning.
Okay, now that we got that out of the way it was utility infielder, turned starting pitcher, David Fletcher that stole the game today. Fletcher, who plays mainly second on games when he doesn’t pitch, was recently sent down to Mississippi to take up a legitimate starting position spot in the Mississippi rotation. He responded to the new challenge with great success as he navigated through six innings of two hit ball. Fletcher gave up hardly any hard contact throughout the entire game, and whenever he found players on the base pads he seemingly always was able to induce weak contact to find himself out of it. The only time a runner reached second base against him was in the first inning when he gave up a double to the second hitter he faced - outside of that, nobody got past first base. It is one of the strangest, and funniest storylines of the minor league season as David looks like...a legitimate knuckle ball throwing starting pitcher. David has now had back-to-back starts where he’s pitched at least five innings and given up three hits or less (5IP 3H 2ER 1BB 6K), and is slated to make another start this series.

Box Score
Isaiah Drake, CF: 1-for-4, 3B, R, .098/.205/.147
Will Verdung, 1B: 1-for-4, RBI, R, .200/.316/.246
Didier Fuentes, SP: 4.0IP 4H 3ER 2BB 6K, 3.34 ERA
It was another tough luck loss, in what has been a rather fantastic season, for Didier Fuentes. He surrendered just three earned runs over four innings of work but that’s all it would take for the Pelicans as the GreenJackets offense was held scoreless from innings 2 through 9. The game started off with a bang for the Pelicans as Fuentes surrendered a two-run homer in the first inning to go down 2-0. Augusta struck back in the bottom half of the inning when Isaiah Drake started things off with a triple, and came in to score on a Will Verdung single. Will Verdung would go first to third on a Cam Magee single, and eventually score the tying run on a passed ball.
Like stated previously, that was all the offense the GreenJackets would be able to muster. Didier Fuentes would go on to retire six of the next eight batters, before a pair of mistakes in the fourth inning (1B, 2B) would eventually lead to the third, and decisive, run of the game. To his credit Didier, after giving up the lead, promptly struck out the next hitter, got a ground out, and induced a fly out to end the inning. The trio of Juan Sanchez (2IP 0H 0R 2BB 4K), Reibyn Corona (2IP 1H 0R 1BB 2K), and Beau Philip (1IP 1H 0R 0BB 0K) would follow up Didier with five shut out innings, but ultimately that was not enough as the Pelican pitching staff shut down the GreenJackets offense.

Box Score
Luis Guanipa, CF: 2-for-3, .667/.667/.667
Mario Baez, SS: 1-for-3, .221/.268/.273
Douglas Glod, LF-CF: 1-for-3, .204/.362/.370
A pitchers duel, wild to see in the FCL, occurred between the Braves and Orioles with the Braves falling for their 18th defeat. The FCL Braves trailed 1-0 for a majority of the game when a rehabbing Tommy Doyle gave up an unearned run in the first inning following a fielding error by third baseman John Gil. The FCL Braves would tie it up in the sixth inning when Douglas Glod first singled to put John Estevez on third, before eventually coming in on a sacrifice fly by Angel Nieblas to tie the game 1-1. Unfortunately, the Orioles would respond in the next inning with a walk off single to take the game 2-1.
Of significant note, however, prized international signee from 2023 signing period Luis Guanipa returned from a hamstring injury that has kept in from the field all season and responded by going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
