Atlanta opts to carry two catchers by sending the veteran backstop to Gwinnett. The Atlanta Braves have announced that they have optioned catcher Chadwick Tromp to Gwinnett after today’s game. No additional roster move was announced as the Braves now have only 25 men on the active 26-man roster.

Tromp filled in for Sean Murphy after Murphy when on the IL after suffering an injury on Opening Day. Tromp appeared in 19 games for Atlanta slashing .250/.259/.365 but provided plus defense and drew praise for his work with the pitching staff.
The 29-year-old Aruba-native has appeared for the Braves in each of the last three seasons. He will now get an opportunity to play regularly for the Stripers. He did not appear for Atlanta after the team activated Murphy from the IL.
The Braves will look to add a position player to the active roster prior to the team’s next game on Tuesday in Boston.
