After a memorable off-season, there is plenty to digest about how the team is structured going into the summer. With the Falcons expected to win the NFC South, there is greater attention on how their roster has been built going into a pivotal season. They have been aggressive in putting their offense in position to be one of the more prolific units in the league. That’s been one of Terry Fontenot’s biggest priorities since becoming general manager in 2021. Although they want to be more productive through the air, the team’s greatest strength comes on the ground.
Nearly half of the fans believe that running back is the strongest positional group on the roster. The tandem of Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier provides plenty of excitement with their punishing styles. Despite the running game’s maddening inconsistencies in 2023, there is plenty of optimism that they can carry one of the best running games in the league. Both players are too talented not to be more steadily productive behind what should be a more unpredictable offensive scheme.

As is the case for most years, the biggest positional flaws are considered to be on defense. The off-season was largely dedicated to addressing the biggest hole on the roster which was the quarterback position. They also added much-needed explosiveness at wide receiver. While making significant investments in those areas, it left the defense with question marks. The concerns about the edge rusher and corner position going into the off-season remain there.
The survey reveals slightly over half of the fans believe the edge rushing position is the biggest weakness on the roster. It’s hard to dispute that compared to cornerback, due to A.J. Terrell’s presence. Although proven depth is lacking on the outside, the unit is led by a star. All signs point towards the Falcons hoping a young player emerges to bolster the weakest positional group on the roster.
